Classic Italy - 14-Day

Day 1: ARRIVAL/ROME. Benvenuti a Roma! You will be greeted at the airport in Rome by one of our friendly English-speaking guides. Sit back and relax in your private accessible van as you are transferred to your hotel in Rome’s city center. After check-in and a brief (and entertaining) orientation, enjoy your first lunch in Italy followed by an afternoon of sightseeing at the Piazza del Popolo and Spanish Steps , Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona and the Pantheon. Reflect on your first day in Italy over dinner before retiring to the hotel.

Day 2: ROME. Start your day the Italian way with breakfast and a caffé at the hotel. After breakfast, your English-speaking guide will pick you up for a full-day tour of St. John’s Basilica, The Roman Forum and the famed Coliseum. Enjoy a mid-day break over lunch. Before you know it, it’s time for another incredible Italian meal, followed by a well-earned night’s rest back at the hotel.

Day 3: ROME. Greet the day with breakfast and a caffé at the hotel. After breakfast, your English- speaking guide will pick you up for the quintessential Italian experience: a full-day tour of the Vatican and Vatican museums. Fuel up mid-way with a hearty lunch. At day’s end, unwind over dinner at a classic Roman trattoria. Stay overnight in the city center.

Day 4: ROME/FLORENCE. Enjoy a caffé and breakfast at the hotel before saying “arrivederci” to Rome. After breakfast, your guide will pick you up in accessible van for transfer to train station, where you’ll catch the train to Florence. An English-speaking guide will pick you up at the Florence train station and take you to your hotel in the heart of Florence’s historical center. After check-in, a brief orientation and lunch, you will be guided on an afternoon tour of San Miniato al Monte overlooking Florence. We will escort you to a restaurant to relax over dinner on your own, and then back to hotel for an evening of leisure.

Day 5: FLORENCE. Enticing aromas lure you from sleep for breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, spend a full day taking in the Duomo and Giotto’s Bell Tower, the Bargello National Museum and the beautiful church, museum and piazza of Santa Croce. Enjoy lunch in an Italian cafe. At the end of the day, recall your favorite sights of the day over dinner in Santa Croce. Return to the hotel in Florence.

Day 6: FLORENCE. By now you know you don’t want to miss breakfast in Italy! After breakfast, embark on a full-day tour to Mercato Centrale, San Lorenzo, Medici Chapel, the Church of Santa Maria Novella and Piazza della Repubblica. Fuel up over a mid-day lunch. When it’s time for dinner, dine in style at a renowned Florentine restaurant. Return to the hotel to dream of beautiful art, culture and food.

Day 7: FLORENCE. Set the tone for the remarkable day to come with a delectable breakfast at the hotel. Spend the morning touring the Uffizi Gallery, Palazzo Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria. After lunch, relax at Palazzo Pitti and the stunning Boboli Gardens. Enjoy a traditional Italian dinner in the historical center before returning to the hotel for the night.


Day 8: FLORENCE. Rise and shine to another delicious breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, spend the morning touring the unique Florence synagogue and Casa Buonarroti, home of Michelangelo. Enjoy lunch in the historical center. In the afternoon, visit the Gallery of the Accademia and the magnificent, world-famous statue of David. Bask in your reflections of all the remarkable history and art over dinner before retiring to the hotel.

Day 9: FIESOLE. After breakfast at the hotel, head out on a special full-day tour of the beautiful town of Fiesole. You will visit the Roman Theatre, a fascinating archeological dig, the Civic museum and much more. We will, of course, have lunch along the way. There is no such thing as a skipped meal in Italy! Speaking of, we’ll have you back in Florence for dinner and then safely to your hotel for a sound night’s sleep.

Day 10: FLORENCE /VENICE. Greet the day with breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, you’re off to the train station for the lovely ride to Venice. You will be picked up at the Venice train station and transported directly to your hotel near the Grand Canal. After check-in and a brief orientation, enjoy lunch and a visit to St. Mark’s Square followed by an evening of adventure or leisure on your own. Recount the day’s fun over a traditional Venetian dinner and then rest up back at the hotel for the night.

Day 11: MURANO ISLAND. After breakfast at the hotel, visit Murano Island, home of the famed Venetian glass. You will learn how this delicate glass, renowned for its beauty, is made, and even have an opportunity to do some shopping. Enjoy lunch on the island. Back in Venice, experience Venice from the water with a gondola ride (wheelchair accessible) down the Grand Canal, taking in views of the famous Rialto Bridge. Enjoy a festive dinner before heading back to the hotel.

Day 12: BURANO & TORCELLO ISLANDS. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast at the hotel. After breakfast, set out on a full-day adventure to Burano and Torcello Islands. You will witness the ancient art of lace making and lose yourself in the vivid colors, art and history of these remarkable islands. Lunch will be enjoyed on one of the islands. At the end of the day, indulge in your last Venetian dinner and stay overnight at the hotel.

Day 13: VENICE/ROME. After breakfast, take a morning tour of the Rialto area and famous Rialto Bridge and then head to the train station for your trip back to Rome. You will be met at the train station in Rome and transported directly to your hotel. Enjoy one last exquisite Italian dinner and spend the night in the city center.

Day 14: DEPARTURE. Savor breakfast at the hotel, but don’t be sad. We know you’ll be back! An accessible van will transport you to the airport for a safe trip home. Start planning your next Accessible Escapes vacation on the plane…

BEST TIME TO TRAVEL:
To enjoy more moderate temperatures and lighter crowds, visit Italy in the spring (March-May) or fall (September-November). While more crowded, summer is great fun with lively festivals and outdoor activities, and the winter holidays in December are simply stunning.
